The Ultimate Winter Bike? Argon 18 Equation Review

By Matt Waterfield

The new Argon 18 Equation recently dropped; a carbon bike with mudguard mounts and decent specification for a really sensible price...here's what we think and what style of riding it suits most!

Whether you’re in need of a dedicated winter warrior or just a great value bike for all seasons, the Argon 18 Equation could be a great option...With Argon 18’s thoughtful design and commitment to rider comfort, the new Equation blends functionality with performance to meet the demands of challenging winter conditions and year-round exploring.

Argon 18 Equation Review

The Equation is loaded with signature Argon 18 features that make it really unique and versatile for a carbon bike. Argon 18 use what they call a 'Topological Compliance System', which improves comfort by absorbing bumps and rougher terrain, (a welcome feature on pothole-ridden UK roads)...while still maintaining responsiveness, when you need to accelerate up a local climb.

Something unique by A18 is their patented '3D System' which offers an adjustable head tube height, to dial in the ideal fit. This is as simple as changing a spacer underneath the stem, so a super handy feature.

The Equation also comes with bolts for attaching a top-tube bag—a neat addition for winter essentials like gloves, snacks, or a quick access tool kit.

When you combine these features, together with hidden mudguard mounts and 32mm tyre clearance, it's clear the Equation has been designed to be a well-rounded endurance bike, capable of tackling all seasons.

Despite the above, don’t mistake the Equation for a “comfort-only” machine. With handling and responsiveness that make it feel more like a road racer than a traditional endurance bike - this bike really does tick a lot of boxes and could be everything you need.

Aesthetically, Argon 18 continues its tradition of delivering sharp, good-looking bikes with attractive colorways, which always add an extra appeal. The carbon layups are derived from Argon’s pro-level models, and the Equation is spec’d with the ever-reliable Shimano 105 mechanical groupset, a favorite among all riders for its durability, precision, and accessible price point.

If you’re searching for a bike that’s ready to tackle all four seasons or something specifically for winter training, the Argon 18 Equation should be high on your list. It’s a modern endurance bike that balances performance and comfort at a highly competitive price point—delivering style, versatility, and all-season capability in one impressive package.

Available in store now from £2,499.
