I got my Pinarello X7 in January 2024 and I couldn't believe that I had been given the opportunity to be an ambassador for Pinarello. I do endurance riding, so the X7 was my bike of choice; it's designed for comfort and speed combined.
My main priority in cycling is enjoyment and due to how far I ride, being comfy on the bike is without a doubt the most important aspect, the X7 definitely meets these criteria.
I will admit, I do usually choose a bike based on what it looks like and although I prefer bright colours, I instantly fell in love the subtle glitter in the paintwork and the shine of the Silver Pinarello logo; I love little details in bike designs!
I was a little nervous when first getting the bike, just in case it wasn't comfy; Pinarello are well known for being speedy bikes but have less of a stance in the endurance field. However, my concerns immediately vanished when I broke the bike in with a 200km ride, feeling completely comfortable the whole ride and knowing from that moment that with this bike, it was going to be a fantastic year of riding.
I've since cycled 403 miles in a 24-hour time trial, 2000km from Italy to the UK over 8 days and completed All Points North covering 690 miles and a lot of hills, in 71 hours. Through all of these rides I've been really comfortable, experienced no injuries or saddle sore and had no technical issues with the bike. I was worried about the Di2 battery life when doing endurance riding, but again, I've had no problems at all. I took my charger with me for the 2000km ride home from Italy but I didn't need to use it, the Shimano Di2 battery lasted 2000km without needing a charge.
Now that I've become accustomed to the life of Di2 there's no going back, the ease of gear change just isn't comparable to mechanical gears. Plus in the winter on previous bikes, I've had occasions where my hands have been so cold I can't change gear, I know I won't have that issue anymore!
I've done over 10,000 miles on the bike this year and the only inconvenience I've had is a few punctures, but since changing to Panaracer Duro tyres, I don't have this problem anymore either, 8000 miles without a puncture so far (using two sets of the tyres)!
For touring, I've used the Tailfin Carbon Rack, top bag and panniers which attached onto the bike with a custom thru axel and the bike has been absolutely fine with the extra weight, a Pinarello with Panniers on definitely got a few heads turning!
Now let's talk about what the bike feels to ride. It's fast up the climbs; it's Carbon T900 3K frame is light and climbs quick. It's responsive; on descents which I will admit I get nervous on, it feels super safe, it sticks to the road and takes the corners really well.
Due to its endurance designed you have a relaxed position on the bike, making it perfect for long rides and adding to the comfort is the use of X stays which reduce the feel of bumps on the road (which we all know there's a lot of in the UK). It has tyre clearance of up to 35mm so if you want to take it on some light gravel you can do, I've ridden on gravel (accidentally) numerous times on the bike and been absolutely fine!
So, over all, I'd say the X7 is an endurance machine that's bound to make you stand out and feel comfy on your rides, I know I'll have a lot more adventures with Pinny (I named my bike) to come!
If you can afford it and are looking for a bike to do long distance on I would 100% recommend it.
